osmosis was fortunate enough to spend a month in Uganda - awesome place,
rich in the African Spirit unlike down south where we seem to have sold our soul - Lake Nalubale where the source of the Nile meets with over 150 islands is where we were located in the beautiful hilly city of Kampala - we are here as guests of QC Saatchi - we're here to tap into the Ugandan psyche, and hopefully come up with a new marketing strategy for MTN Uganda , the atmosphere is intense - fear is in the air - smells familiar this FEAR - we feel for Patrick & David owners of the agency, two very special human beings.
We do not have much time - the agency has been briefed , we are aware of the competition, coming from Kenya and as far afield as our compatriots - rumors abound - Osmosis quietly gets on with the
business of Disruptivation / creative innovation - a workshop is planned - time lines are thrashed out
we begin to play - we are blessed to be here learning through the excitement of a new and different culture.
Kampala - set in amongst rolling hills, is very tropical unspoilt not a Sandton fake Lego piece of Italian architecture in sight - very colonial dude so if you've come here with your patronizing South African attitude you'd better leave it at customs - speaking of customs we were treated very efficiently at the Entebbe airport ( Yes the same one the Israelis raided in the seventies ) What is it that wherever i go in Africa makes me realize more and more that we in Saaf Afrika have definitely lost the plot - started thinking it was just me and my yuppie flu until i spoke to fellow South Africans in transit , in flux -- there's an excitement about traveling it enriches you in many ways can't quite explain it - except to say i would much rather be somewhere else in Africa, other than
down South .
There's something very wrong with South Africa it seems to be behaving like someone
with an addiction and is sadly in denial - this manufactured rainbow nation bullshit just doesn't seem
to wash ( just speak to the disenfranchised - the real people ) - strange this as i am meant to be writing about Uganda i can't but help make comparisons - if you travel, and are blessed like me to experience other cultures please let me know how you feel.
Do you feel the same , do you also question your very roots , do you feel disappointment at what you see and a longing to keep exploring keep moving on - maybe i am the one who is addicted to "the excitement of the new " maybe i am the one in denial - don't quite know how to understand this - maybe the only understanding is that there is nothing to understand - simply to keep an open mind
i guess - still interested in your comments though - you people of the South ....
Christmas comes early to Kampala - HOLA - HOLA MC SAATCHI !
Osmosis learns two weeks before Christmas that " we won dude ! " Count Bafou, informed me via text that Count David of Nalubale & Count Patrick of Ghana , have been re - appointed as rulers of the land of M T N , the service provider principality that stretches over the entire kingdom of Baganda !According to legend a " Welcoming Ceremony " has been ordered, there will be plenty of
partying in the hills of Kampala ! A good source informs osmosis that the Count's Patrick & David
are a formidable fource and will let nothing deterre them in their quest to save the Principality of MTN . W e salute you brave subjects of Baganda, we congratulate you on your resilliance and look
forward to visiting the Kingdom of Baganda soon bearing great gifts & celubrial wishes - from the
people of osmosis ( down south ) HOLA - HLOA !
